Tree Trimming : Why the Right Cut Matters

20140614_140905No Worries Property Maintenance follows best maintenance practices and ANSI A300 standards which are the generally accepted industry standards for tree care practices. Our pros are certified to trim trees in Broward County which requires training courses, testing and continued education to maintain the license. Unfortunately many types of trees have fell victim to improper pruning by inexperienced or unlicensed tree trimmers.   Poor pruning practices that encourage decay or the formation of weak branches include: flush cutting (pruning too close to the lead branch or trunk), leaving long stubs, “topping trees,” or stripping bark when pruning. Improper cuts lead to decay which can lead to tree failure – which can put your loved ones at risk and cause costly damage to your home and personal property.

Palm trees that are over-pruned resemble upside down feather dusters or pineapples propped up on sticks. Inexperienced tree trimmers will refer to these as “hurricane-cuts” and insist this makes the tree safer, which is completely the opposite. Over-pruning palm trees can damage them by taking away the plant’s food-producing capacity – which leads to nutrient deficiencies resulting in an ugly, sickly looking palm. It also makes them more susceptible to wind damage. Repeated over-pruning like this can cause the palm trees to lose their entire top crown during storms. When it does it will not only kill the tree, when it falls down it will cause greater damage.

Bottom Line: Preventative & proper maintenance by an experienced, knowledgeable, licensed &  insured tree company is the best way to ensure all your trees are safe,  healthy & looking great.

Most trees require regular pruning to keep them attractive and safe. Proper structural pruning by a licensed and insured tree company should be performed on most tree species that become large at maturity to promote longevity, decrease future maintenance costs, and reduce conditions that could place people or property at risk.

Are your palms looking sickly and unattractive? In South Florida, the soil can lack the vital nutrients in order promote the healthy growth of palm trees. Nutrient deficiencies tend to occur more frequently with non-native palms and other palms that are in commercial developments and are subjected to poor soil. A specially formulated fertilizer is needed to deliver the right amount of quality nutrients back to the palm tree in order to promote proper root development, vigor and long-term health of the tree. Fertilization should be done once every 4 months to ensure beautiful and long lasting results.
