Oleander is a beautiful, fast growing shrub that is commonly used in South Florida as a privacy hedge. It is moderately salt tolerant so it will work well in coastal areas and is also tolerant of poor quality soil and dry weather. The Oleander plant has thick, dark green leaves that form a dense shrub. The flowers are fragrant and grow in clusters. Colors include pink, white, yellow, or red.

WARNING This beautiful plant is thought by many to be the most poisonous plant in the world. All parts of Nerium oleander are considered to be toxic, as they contain cardiac glycosides that have the potential to cause serious effects—including gastrointestinal tract irritation, abnormal heart function, hypothermia and even death. Unlike some toxic plants, the oleander is poisonous to most animals as well as humans. A single ingested oleander leaf can kill a child.
